Heard in the Channel: TTI Acquires Astrex Electronics

June 24, 2014
TTI adds New York-based connector specialist and fellow Global Purchasing Top 50 company to the fold; plus news from Mouser, Digi-Key, and more.

Electronics distributor TTI, Inc. has acquired Astrex Electronics, a privately held connector specialist headquartered in Plainview, New York.

"I'm very pleased to be bringing Astrex Electronics into the fold of the TTI family of companies,” said Mike Morton, president TTI Americas. “I am confident that Astrex's 50 years of focus and success in the military/aerospace connector marketplace will prove to be of exceptional benefit to the customers of all the TTI companies—I'm looking forward to having the Astrex experience and expertise on our team."

TTI and Astrex Electronics are members of Global Purchasing’s Top 50 Electronics Distributors list. TTI ranked 6th on the 2014 Top 50, with $1.68 billion in sales, and Astrex ranked 29th, with $37.6 million in sales.

Astrex will operate independently of the TTI organization “until such time as system integration is complete,” according to TTI. McGuire will report directly to Morton beginning immediately and after the integration.

In other news, Mouser Electronics announced the release of a new anti-counterfeiting site at Mouser.com.

The site offers a one-stop resource for the latest news, developments, and standards in anti-counterfeiting measures at Mouser and throughout the industry, according to the distributor.

“This site is dedicated to communicating with our customers our commitment and other relevant topics concerning authorized distribution,” said Pete Shopp, Mouser’s senior vice president of business operations. “Mouser strongly supports all efforts to help the industry identify and avoid counterfeit parts.”

The site contains details about Mouser’s quality assurance, its anti-counterfeit control plan, as well as specifics about AS9100C Certification, the industry standard for quality assurance in the aerospace industry. There are also links to the Electronic Components Industry Association (ECIA), the latest information about standard-setting association SAE International’s anti-counterfeiting efforts, and notices of upcoming anti-counterfeiting conferences.

“Our customers can be confident that Mouser Electronics takes every possible precaution to ensure they are receiving authorized, genuine components,” Shopp added. “Our commitment to delivering authorized genuine components for our customers across the globe is central to our business. We have adopted multiple safeguards and quality control standards to provide customers with full traceability on the commercial components sold.”

The site also features a new blog by Mouser’s Chuck Amsden, a well-known authority on compliance issues and counterfeit part mitigation.
