Distributor Mouser Electronics adds a customer service center in Japan; integrated circuit maker Akros Silicon expands with second location in China.

Mouser Electronics recently opened a Japan Customer Service Center, located in Tokyo. Mouser said the location will provide customer service and local technical support as the distributor establishes a deeper collaboration with its local manufacturer partners. Mouser now has 21 offices worldwide, with eight locations in Asia Pacific.

The move is part of Mouser’s effort to strengthen its presence in Japan, which the distributor has served via and other locations throughout Asia. Company executives point to the country’s strong market for innovative technologies and its growth in design engineers and small- to medium-sized production business as “perfect fit” with the Mouser model.

“In Japan, our business grew 36% last year, and our customer base grew 23%,” said Glenn Smith, Mouser’s president and CEO. “Japan has always been a pioneer in robotics and automotive technologies, and we look forward to being able to serve engineers in Japan with the world’s newest semiconductors and electronic components from our vast lineup of the world’s leading manufacturers. We will provide one-stop shopping with a fast delivery time of about three days.”

Smith also emphasized Mouser’s focus on technology and new design.

“As volume production shifts to China, Japan has seen increasing numbers of design engineers with innovation-driven projects,” he said. “Small- to medium-production quantities and leading-edge designs are becoming the core of Japan’s electronics market, and it is important for us to have a local presence here in Japan.”

In other industry news, manufacturer Akros Silicon announced the opening of a new office in Asia this spring. The maker of intelligent energy management integrated circuits opened the office in Shanghai, China, to meet increasing production demand. This is the company’s second office in China.

“Akros Silicon has seen tremendous growth in sales in China with our PoE [Power-over-Ethernet] and integrated digital isolator products,” said Elie Antoun, company president and CEO. “The establishment of a new office in Shanghai will allow us to provide local technical and logistical support to our growing customer base in Central and Northern China.”
