According to a company press release, the Electronics and Energy Business Group of 3M Company joined EICC in October. The manufacturer says the move reinforces its “longstanding commitment to the industry and to social responsibility,” aligns the 3M Electronics and Energy Business Group with key customers, and helps streamline supply chain efficiencies.
Named by Ethisphere as a “World’s Most Ethical Company” for three consecutive years, 3M Electronics and Energy Business Group says it intends to bring this same ethical leadership to the EICC, with a focus on continuous improvement to ethical business practices in the electronics industry and educational programs offered by the coalition, according to the company.
“We’re excited to have 3M join other industry leaders as a member of the Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition,” says Rob Lederer, the EICC’s executive director. “3M has a strong reputation for ethics and its decision to join the EICC further reflects its commitment to corporate social responsibility in the global supply chain.”
The EICC’s Mission
With the mission of creating a global electronics industry that creates sustainable value for workers, the environment, and business, the EICC collaborates with members, suppliers, and stakeholders to improve working and environmental conditions through leading standards and practices.
According to the EICC’s website, the group also consists of thousands of companies that are Tier 1 suppliers to those members that are required to implement the EICC Code of Conduct. And, it adds, more than 3.5 million people from over 120 countries contribute to the manufacture of EICC members’ products.
In addition to setting and holding members accountable to core standards and providing training and assessment tools, the EICC regularly engages in dialog and collaborations with workers, governments, civil society, investors, and academia to gather the necessary range of perspectives and expertise to support and drive its members toward achieving the EICC mission and values of a responsible global electronics supply chain.
